Your
Neighbors in the Community
We
are proud to be members of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, and
we are also proud to be your neighbors and friends. Our musicians
have studied at the finest conservatories and music schools in the
world. They hail from all over the US, and from all corners of the
globe including Canada, Russia, China, Bulgaria, Romania, Germany,
Korea, the Philippines, and Poland.
Reaching out and giving to the community through the art of music
is what we do as full time professional musicians. Whether educating
hundreds of young musicians, providing music at places of worship,
or raising money for scholarships to send promising students to
summer programs, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra musicians are involved
in giving back to the community.
Our diverse concert series includes classical repertoire, pops concerts,
opera, ballet, chamber music, and educational & outreach concerts
for children of all ages.
Throughout the year, we travel all over New York State and regularly
perform in Jamestown, Olean, Geneva, Cortland, Rome, Watertown,
Lake Placid, Plattsburgh, and Oneonta (Yes, even in January and
February!). You may also find us serving as artistic ambassadors
of Syracuse and Central New York, and may see us performing as far
away as New Hampshire, Delaware, Connecticut or Pennsylvania. In
all, we perform over 200 concerts per year!
Our musicians provide artistic support for other Central New York
institutions such as the Syracuse Opera, the Skaneateles Festival,
Society for New Music, MasterWorks Chorale, Civic Morning Musicals,
and Upstate NY Ballet.
Many musicians are also teachers, and are responsible for providing
private instruction to hundreds of students throughout the region.
We also serve part-time on the faculties of Syracuse University,
Colgate University, SUNY Oswego, Hobart and William Smith College,
Ithaca College, LeMoyne College, Nazareth College, SUNY Geneseo,
Roberts Wesleyan College, Hamilton College, and Onondaga Community
College.
We participate in all aspects of life here in CNY; buying homes,
raising families, paying taxes, giving to charitable causes, and
working to enrich the quality of life and work for everyone, just
as our own lives are enriched by living in this community.
